The Giver wasn't the greatest book I have ever read. It was really weird; example: there are no grandparents, all the old people go to this place called the house of the old. Another example is that the mother and father aren't related to their kids. In fact, the mother doesn't give birth to her children either. People called 'birthmothers' give birth to the kids and then the kids get placed in a family unit. Only the beginning of the book is good. Towards the end, it just get plain ...
